First Rain, First Texas Post

Hello again Texas!

It is finally raining here in the Alamo City (San Antonio,TX). I got to enjoy my first Texas thunderstorm by bringing in all the wood baseboard pieces left outside for remodeling the home.

So here I am in Texas again, almost ten years later relaxing in the usual heat where 90F is low for the day [except for tonight's much needed rain]. The house itself has a great upstairs loft for photography. Between all the tile work and upgrading the house infrastructure for network and audio I shamefully have let my photoing lapse for the last week. If yall want to see a walk through video of the new house and workspace I’ll cobble something together.

Merry Christmas

Wishing my family, friends and customers a Merry Christmas! 2010 has been a good year for me and za Riiv productions.

For those that don’t know, my parents are moving to San Antionio, Texas. Dad being a top engineer landed a job pretty easily and mom’s probably gonna enjoy the warm weather again. I’ll be sticking to New Jersey for time being and have been looking into new production and studio digs.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope y’all got to go overboard on turkey or shopping. Some quick takes from a shoot I did a couple weeks back with Howard. Howard’s acted in several B movies and as an extra on larger features. The shoot itself was pretty laid back, Howard and I chatted while I snapped pictures and talked about movies and music.

I call it the Pink Retainer. It’s pretty stylish and over the top cute. I love the end result.

A couple hiccups in the modding occurred which I would have done differently. I followed Driph’s guide from Shoryuken pretty closely. But I should have opted to use a more durable solution from Mamemarquees / Game on Grafix. The lami label from Kinko’s seemed to introduce air bubbles all over the artwork. Air bubbles are especially noticeable on the right side in the darker tones. Cutting the see though buttons were a complete pain to prep and cut precisely but they add to the overall look.

Upgrading the default artwork to a high end anime is wow wow cool. Retainer is going to be my defacto joystick for a couple years.

Yes, I’ve let the site stagnate a bit these last couple weeks. I have several recent shoots coming soon. Also if you’re a photographer in the New Jersey area, I highly recommend joining the PPANJ. Great people in the group and they have some great creative and educational workshops coming up in the next couple months.

Tasha and Brian Engagement Session

I had the opportunity to shoot my friend Brian with Tasha for their Engagement. A quick run thru Strawbridge Lake in Moorestown and I was thrilled with the great images we made. Best wishes you two.

Quilts and Cosplay In America

I had the opportunity to take some imagery of intricate quilts bestowed to us by my Grandma Spehr [from my dad's side of the family] which is no longer with us. You can see lots of tender care went into the crafting of these quilts. Chase Jarvis said it best in a blog about the importance of being with your grandparents and treasuring the time you have with family and friends.

On a totally unrelated but cool note is fellow Cosplay photographer Ejen Chuang‘s new book Cosplay In America is ready and coming out in June. I meet Ejen at Otakon last year and the book itself is a cool project that helps explain the whole Cosplay thing and dressing up in crazy costumes.
