I had a great time helping Ashley out last week. There was this dilapidated farmhouse in South Jersey that she had eyeballed for some practice shooting. After Ashley and I finished a set of pictures inside we attempted some outside with the sun in the background.
This shot is one of my favorites from that day; it captured her great personality and the only major edit I added were some clouds behind her to punch-up the image and add some contrast. It also used my new Alienbee gear. I’ve already decided I’m keeping the AB800 and added a second this week. I’ll probably use them for a couple months and decide again how well they address my versatility needs.
Details: Canon 40D with 100/2 prime at 1/250 @ f8 and AB800 as main light at 1/4 power.

I’ve got a couple shoots coming up soon. I just finished one yesterday with a great model and definitely have one or two bound for the updated portfolio. Last night after the shoot I got home with plenty of time (10 minutes!) to register for David Ziser’s webinar over at Marathon press. Great hour and I think most of the listeners were able to take away something from it.
My only unhappiness lately is my new gear. A personal hobby of mine is beating a dead horse, my Alienbee B800, easily the best entry level flash in the photo world, it just can’t take an umbrella and be gelled to my satisfaction at the same time. Granted the AB800 is great at killing sunlight at 6 to 8 feet. I’m looking at other monolights or perhaps the Dynalite system. I’ll let you guys know what I decide on.
